My mom bought me a blender

 Dec 19th, 2023

My mom bought me a brand new blender since I'm moving into my own place. It's a really nice one. The kind that comes with a food processor.

While I was unpackaging the blender box today I came close to bursting into tears. Really Leslie? A blender made you cry? Yes, basically.

The thing is, my mom has never bought herself a brand-new piece of equipment. She buys second-hand. Everything she owns is second-hand. She never treats herself to nice things. She gives everything she has to her two kids.

My mom wanted to make sure I never had an issue when blending my smoothies (she knows I take my smoothies very seriously), so she bought me a brand-new blender. I think this is the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me. But then I get to thinking. My mom has done all of the nicest things anyone has ever done for me. I don't think anyone will top it.

For example, one time, she brought me a tray filled with HEB sushi. She knew I adored HEB sushi. Up here in North Texas, we didn't have access to HEB sushi for a while. I can picture her going to our local HEB in Central Texas, with all her motherly love, packing it up nicely so it won't go bad, driving four hours, and giving it to me with a smile on her face.

I have the most complex relationship with my mother. But no one loves me more, and I don't think there ever will be someone who loves me more than my mother.

I don't say this enough,

Thank you, mom.
